Transfer Transition Program

The Bear Tracks transition program will assist you in getting your UCR experience started on the right track. Bear Tracks gives you an important head start in preparing for your college experience, because you’ll get to meet with staff from your academic college and register early for your fall classes. You’ll have an opportunity to receive a tour of the campus, get information about the many resources offered by the campus and in some instances, receive academic advising. There are various one-day sessions offered in September. Click here for Bear Tracks session dates.

  • Learn about the services and resources available to you from various UCR departments.
  • Learn how to use the online GROWL registration system, UCR Webmail and ILearn, which are essential instructional and communication tools for on-line learning.
  • Have lunch with your Bear Tracks Counselor and other new UCR transfer students
  • Take your picture for your UCR (ID) Card. Your Student Identification Number is required for your picture to be taken (you can find your Student ID number at your MyUCR account under the “MYUCR ID’s” tab. For more information abount you’re the UCR ID card, visit the UCR Card Web site.
  • Receive academic advising, learn about classes in your major, and register for classes.*
  • Bear Tracks isn’t mandatory, but is highly recommended. At Bear Tracks, you’ll work with academic advisors who can provide you with guidance specific to your major and prior academic history, and get assistance from our technical staff to help you register for classes.
  • You’ll also learn how to access the great resources UCR has to offer. Additionally, Bear Tracks attendees perform better, on average, than transfer students who don’t attend Bear Tracks.
  • The University's departments and majors are structured into three Colleges: the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS); the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS); and the Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE). Your UCR acceptance letter will indicate which College holds your major. Please consult your UCR acceptance letter if you are unsure about the College to which you are admitted.
  • The College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) will not be present at any of the Bear Tracks session dates. Students enrolled in this college will receive academic advising and course registration information from your academic advisor, into your UCR Webmail email account. Should you have any questions, you can contact the CNAS Undergraduate Advising Center at (951) 827-7294, or by email at cnassaao@ucr.edu

  • WINTER 2009 ADMITS PLEASE NOTE: The session date and information for Bear Tracks for Winter 2009 admits has not yet been finalized. Please check back sometime during Fall 2008.
    • If you are an International visa student, you’re required to send legible copies of your passport picture page, visa page, current school’s I-20 (if applicable) and I-94 card (usually the white card stapled in your passport) to the International Education Center prior to attending Bear Tracks. The documents must reach the International Education Center by August 19, 2007.
    • The address is:
      International Education Center
      University of California, Riverside
      1669 Statistics Computer Building
      Riverside, CA 92521-0307
    • If the requested documents are not received, your legal ability to remain in the United States and attend UCR will be jeopardized. A "hold" may be placed on your enrollment, preventing you from registering for classes during Bear Tracks. All F and J visa students are also required to attend a mandatory orientation program at the International Education Center on September 13 and 14. A detailed email message regarding this orientation was sent in May to your UCR Webmail address.
    • For more information, contact the International Education Center at:
    • Telephone: (951) 827-4113
      International Center
    • As a new UCR student you are expected to use your new UCR Webmail account. Important University information, including information about dates, deadlines, and documents is sent to you during the summer via Webmail; so it’s important for you to check you Webmail account regularly. If you are not sure how to access your Webmail account, go to you MyUCR account login and check the “Reminders” section, where you will find instructions about how to access your Webmail.
